A beautifully shaped standard with a dense, rounded lollipop head of glossy, dark green foliage atop a clean, slender stem. Portuguese Laurel has a refined elegance that suits both formal and contemporary gardens, offering year-round structure and interest. In early summer it produces delicate racemes of white flowers, followed by small dark fruits beloved by birds — a plant that genuinely earns its place.
Care
Thrives in full sun to partial shade in any well-drained soil. Water regularly when first establishing, then largely drought-tolerant once settled. Clip the head once or twice a year in late spring and late summer to maintain a tight, formal shape. Avoid waterlogged conditions. Feed with a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring.
